When deciding what keywords or phrases to use on your website or in an online ad campaign, it’s important to find out how often particular keywords are being searched for and how much competition there is for each keyword. Google actually has a tool which does just this, and best of all it’s free!

To get started just enter your keywords or phrases, select Australia, and then hit search. You will then be able to view the average number of local searches there are each month for your chosen keywords, as well as for any related keywords. There will also be a column for “Competition”, but you need to be aware that this number is only relevant for Google AdWords advertisers. For Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) there are other methods of finding out the competitiveness of keywords, which we’ll cover in a newsletter soon.
